The cultivation of "Bella di Cerignola", the largest table olive in the world, has very ancient origins. Some authors believe that this cultivar derives from the "Orchite" olives of ancient Rome, of which there is trace in Columella's writings. La Bella di Cerignola is a table olive cultivar cultivated in a restricted area of the province of Foggia, largely concentrated in the municipal area of Cerignola, from which it derives its name.
